Basic Requirements for Admission: Ontario Grade 12 Curriculum Requirements

If you are currently attending an Ontario secondary school, you must successfully complete an Ontario Secondary School Diploma including the following to be considered for admission:

  • Six 4U/M courses (excluding co-op).
  • 4U English (ENG4U).
  • Completion of prerequisite courses for the desired program as specified by Western.
  • An admission average including all prerequisite courses as specified by Western.

Failed and Repeated Courses
If a course has been taken more than once, the highest reported successful grade in the course will be used in the calculation.

Timing and Process for Admission Decisions
Beginning in early 2011, and continuing until early March, Western will be extending a number of early conditional offers, scholarship information and offers of residence to students with an outstanding academic record in their last two years of secondary school. These early offers will take many factors into consideration including marks in prior grades, as well as prior and interim marks in 4U/M courses. Applicants must either have completed or be enrolled in prerequisite courses for programs to which they have applied in order to be considered at this time.

Offers of admission and final decisions for applicants who do not receive an offer as of early March will be deferred until May. All applicants will be given full consideration at this time. Information pertaining to special circumstances adversely affecting an applicant's grades, as well as extracurricular activities and contributions to citizenship, will be taken into account for those students on, or near the required admission average for the offers being extended in May. These forms must be submitted by April 1.

All offers will be conditional upon successfully completing the Ontario Secondary School Diploma and maintaining a minimum final average in six 4U/M courses (not co-op), including all prerequisite courses, as stipulated in the offer of admission. Admission averages will be based on the best six 4U/M marks, including prerequisite courses.

One-year deferrals of admission may be granted to secondary school applicants. A written request must be sent to the Admissions Office that outlines the reasons for deferral. Please note that a deferral will not be granted to those students who will be studying at another postsecondary institution.

The Special Consideration Form is available for students who may have had extenuating circumstances that led to academic difficulty and that may put them marginally below the university's minimum admissions requirement. Extenuating circumstances may include disability, personal illness, financial circumstances, required employment, family illnesses, or other personal or family matters.

The Extraordinary Contributions to Citizenship and Extracurricular Activities profile is designed to recognize a candidate's commitment to "extracurricular activities and active citizenship" through ongoing community life.

Alternate Offers: Applicants who wish to be considered for more than one program should list each program as a separate choice on the OUAC application.

Internship and/or co-op opportunities are available in a variety of programs. For further details, please visit http://welcome.uwo.ca.
