Offers of Admission for Ontario High School Students
Basic Requirements for Admission
The Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or equivalent is required and a minimum of six 4U/M courses or equivalent. This includes program-specific prerequisite courses, with a minimum 70% overall final average (calculated using the best six 4U/M courses).
Failed and Repeated Courses
If you present a repeated 4U/M course, Lakehead University will count your best grade achieved in the course toward your admission average.
Timing and Process for Admission Decisions
Early conditional offers of admission are made in December 2014 and continue on a rolling basis. To be considered for early admission, you must be registered in at least six 4U/M courses, including the appropriate prerequisites for your chosen program. Early conditional offers of admission are based on final first-semester Grade 12 grades, interim grades and/or final 3U/M grades.
All offers of admission are conditional, upon successfully completing the OSSD, with a minimum of six 4U/M courses or equivalent. This includes any outlined conditions and program-specific prerequisite courses, with a minimum overall average, as outlined in the offer (calculated using the best six 4U/M courses).
In most instances, if you are not offered admission to your first-choice program, you will be considered automatically for admission to an alternative program, provided you meet the admission requirements of that program.
If you are not offered admission to your first-choice program, you will automatically be considered for admission into an alternative program, provided you meet the admission requirements for that program.
- One credit from: MCV4U, MDM4U or MHF4U
- Four additional 4U/M credits
Additional Admission Criteria
If you do not have Grade 12U Math, you will be considered for admission but will be required to take a prescribed course as a first-year elective.
If English is not your first language, you must demonstrate that you can cope with the language demands of an English-language university.
You may meet our English language requirements if you successfully complete, or are in the process of completing, three full years of recent study in an English-language school system.
You are required to present proof of English-language proficiency if English is not your native language, and you cannot verify having recently studied in an English-language school system for more than three full years of full-time study.
We accept the following as proof of English-language proficiency:
- The successful completion of a recognized language test (i.e. TOEFL, IELTS, CAEL or MELAB) with the required minimum scores
- The successful completion of our Academic English Program
- The successful completion of one of our approved Pathway Partner’s ESL programs
For more information, see our English-language requirements.
Please be advised that some academic units may require a higher score and that meeting the minimum requirements does not guarantee admission to Lakehead University. Grade 12 University English (ENG4U) cannot be used to satisfy the English-language proficiency requirement.
